We’re at war with Parkinson’s. Over 1 million Americans and over 10 million people globally have the disease. The incidence of Parkinson’s increases with age and over 90,000 Americans are being diagnosed every year. The army of researchers has grown in recent years and they continue to fight diligently every day to develop a cure. The Michael J. Fox Foundation leads this charge. They recently sponsored a free event to both educate and empower the community, their city-by-city Parkinson’s IQ + YOU. The Metro Detroit event was attended by over 3,500 people, including me on behalf of Viconic Health. We’ve enlisted to help in the fight. 

Supportive care is so important to keep the disease at bay. Thousands of movement disorder specialists are working hard to keep their Parkinson’s clients active. I had the pleasure of hearing Kirk Gibson speak at the LeadingAge Michigan conference in Kalamazoo in early May. His foundation is endeavoring to build a wellness center to create an environment supporting active wellness for those with Parkinson’s. We hope to be involved.
