Viconic Health has been named a double winner at the 2025 McKnight’s Tech Awards.
This year’s recognition highlights the leadership of two senior living communities using Viconic Fall Defense to improve safety outcomes for residents. The program honored Viconic in both the Falls Management and KISS (Keep It Super Simple) categories— underscoring its effectiveness, simplicity, and measurable impact on resident safety.
The McKnight’s Tech Awards, now in their 15th year, celebrate organizations and partners that use technology to enhance safety, improve resident well-being, and support staff in delivering quality care. This year, Viconic stood out in not one, but two categories – with innovative provider partners:
- Ecumen Lakeview Commons in Maplewood, MN earned recognition in the Falls Management category. To reduce fall-related injury risk in its memory care apartments, they installed Viconic Fall Defense and tracked outcomes over time. The results were clear: rooms with Viconic had significantly fewer fall-related injuries and no severe injuries at all. “We’ve seen a dramatic difference,” says Anne Stepnick, Clinical Director of Ecumen Lakeview Commons. “In rooms with Viconic, we had zero severe injuries and zero ER visits.”
- Garden Spot Village in New Holland, PA was named the winner in the KISS (Keep It Super Simple) category. To enhance resident safety without disrupting the aesthetics or function of living spaces, Garden Spot Village piloted Viconic Fall Defense in select rooms. Although the percentage of total falls was slightly higher in those rooms, the severity and consequences of falls were significantly reduced—with no severe injuries or ER visits reported during the pilot. “Viconic gives us a discreet but powerful way to reduce major fall injuries,” says Steve Muller, Chief Operating Officer of Garden Spot Communities.
Installed beneath the floor covering, Viconic Fall Defense reduces the risk of serious injuries when falls occur. Independent research shows an 82% reduction in severe fall-related injuries to date, helping providers lower ER visits, protect mobility, and support healthier aging—all without changing the look or feel of resident spaces.
Across the country, senior living communities are finding that small design choices, like safer flooring systems, can make a measurable difference in resident outcomes and independence.
