Adoption of Fall Defense solution leads to recognition

Viconic Health and Sanders Glen are honored to be recognized as finalists for the McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards. The program is a joint production of the industry-leading journals McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, McKnight’s Senior Living, and McKnight’s Home Care.   

Viconic and the Sanders Glen senior living community were recognized for the innovative way they are encouraging an active lifestyle with daily fun for all residents—while keeping them safe at the same time. Sanders Glen rolled out Viconic’s impact-absorbing flooring underlayment in a select number of assisted living suites reserved for residents with the highest fall risk. Over a three-year span, Sanders Glen recorded 28 falls on the Viconic flooring, with a total of just 10 injuries — nine considered minor and a single fractured hip, which needed one month of outpatient rehabilitation. 

“Residents and staff forget that the Viconic system is even in place,” observes Joel Cormier, Director of Sales & Engineering at Viconic Health.  

“Achieving these great results without changing the residential character of our community is hugely beneficial for residents, their families, and staff alike,” commented Sue Hamaker, Sanders Glen’s Executive Director. “We fully intend to use this flooring to reduce the impact of falls at our community for years to come.”   

The long-running McKnight’s tech award program honors organizations who demonstrate how technology has successfully improved care and operations.  Nominations were judged by an external panel of industry experts.
