At Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell, Montana, innovation and resident safety go hand in hand. As part of a renovation initiative, the skilled nursing community introduced Viconic® Fall Defense™ into select rooms—not as a reactive measure, but as a proactive investment in well-being. 

Proactive, Not Reactive
Like most communities, Immanuel had relied on traditional fall management tools such as bed alarms and post-fall interventions. But after learning about Viconic, leadership saw an opportunity to shift their approach. 

The team began installing Viconic during their East Wing remodel, starting with three rooms and steadily expanding. To date, 13 rooms have been completed, with more underway. 

Zero Severe Injuries. Zero ER Visits.
Since the first installation in June 2024, Immanuel has reported no severe injuries or ER visits in rooms with Viconic. By contrast, rooms without the flooring have seen a significantly higher rate of serious injuries. 

One fall in a Viconic-equipped bathroom demonstrated the impact. “Everyone assumed it would be serious,” recalled Administrator Michael Wiedemann. “But the x-ray showed no fracture. That one incident made me a believer.” 

Confidence for Staff and Families
While residents may not always notice the difference underfoot, staff and families do. Covered with luxury vinyl plank (LVP), the flooring blends in while offering discreet protection. It’s also firm enough for staff to move equipment without extra effort.

“It brings peace of mind,” Wiedemann said. “Especially for residents with cognitive impairment who are likely to get up unassisted.”

What’s Next
