Admitting what you don’t know, and collaborating with people who do, are the keys to success in bringing innovation and new interventions to market. We’ve been fortunate to see our passive impact protection technologies become the market leaders in both automotive and military crash and blast protection. Viconic has been overwhelmed by the support that the leaders in senior care and universal design have, and continue to provide, as we endeavor to bring our passive Fall Defense impact protection technology to market globally.
In February, Viconic held its inaugural Advisory Council kickoff meeting virtually with great success and support from thought leaders from various backgrounds in senior living and care. While we were short a few members due to schedule conflicts, the majority of our advisors attended. Some literally wrote the book, or are rewriting the book, on universal design for senior living 2024. They included:
Addie Abushousheh (Center for Health Design), Andrew Alden (AG Architecture), Jeffrey Anderzhon (Crepidoma), Maggie Calkins (Ideas Institute), Lori Hiatt (Independent), Dustin Julius (RLPS), BJ Miller (The Vision Group), Jackie Patterson (Lenhardt Rogers), Jane Rohde (JSR Associates), and Gaius Nelson(Nelson-Tremaine)
Viconic updated the group on those providers installing Viconic over the last year. Viconic developed a grant program at EFA 2023 whereby Viconic provides the product for several rooms and installation support in exchange for fall data on Viconic versus control rooms. We reviewed feedback, lessons learned, and images from the installations under the providers flexible floor covering and installer of choice. Overwhelmingly, the feedback continues to be positive on the installation, look, feel, and fall related outcomes and our plans to continue offering the grant at one or more upcoming conferences.
We tapped the council for their market assessment in challenging times for senior living, the state of the industry, and strategies for tying the cost of Viconic into capital improvement and operation budgets. In addition to our fall injury risk reduction, we reviewed Viconic’s tertiary benefits which include improving resident/caregiver comfort, impact sound reduction between floors, thermal insulation, and floor covering removal/replacement/recyclability/longevity.
Great conversation was had and valuable feedback given on Viconic’s Aging in Place launch efforts, AARP’s Livability Index, VA Homes/Hospitals, and other non-senior applications like fall protection for Parkinson’s Disease and children’s hospitals. Lastly, we established our upcoming Advisory Council in person meetings at EFA in April and LeadingAge in October.
Thanks again to those supporting Viconic, and especially our Advisory Council, in our effort to provide the best environment possible for our aging loved ones and their caregivers.
